Jaw Dropping Dumb

Read this article on act-whore George Clooney's "Common Tuth". It's the single dumbest thing I've read in a long time. The implications of what he's saying.... oh, wow.......

For such a talented actor, I'm simply stunned at the stupidity expressed in that little article. How can so much dumb exist in such a small blurb? What sort of idiot is this guy?

Anonymous is boggled.

Yeah, we need ONE source of information - like those great countries North Korea and Myanmar.
Like they said in the movie "The Killing Fields" "Angkah say....."

Ok I agree this guy is an overpaid and untalented mimbo, but you may be misreading this. The common truth is what Augustine or Aristotle would call sensus communis, a shared notion of the truth. The entire point of democratic or philosophical discourse is to reach just such a common truth. Does this have anything to do with the number of networks ? Probably not, but when you have a large number of sources of propaganda parading as news , the temptation to accept whichever party line and not adopt even the pretence of academic or journalistic rigour is overwhelming....witness fox news, they yell it, the American sheep..er..public buys it.

That's not what Clooney is saying. Let's not kid anybody. If ABC, CBS and NBC were all like FOX phrases like "Augustine or Aristotle" and "sensus communis" wouldn't be in your argument. It'd run more along the lines of "fascist fugging mind control".

Well he may be alluding to things like what happend to Dan Rather (sp. ? don't know/care), "back in the day" such shoddy jpournalism would have never flown past the editorial board, which was concerned with accuracy and not breaking the big story or filling the airwaves with 'news' 24/7. Just read "All the president's men" they had to check and re-check sources before the story was eventually run....I mean noiw all you need is to write something on a blog and CNN will give it prime coverage (no offense to this blog in particular). When hearsay replaces authenticated facts than the news becomes fiction, just like in the good old Soviet Union or (insert your fav. reviled country with no freedom of press here).

Monopoly on broadcasting does not necessarilly equate propaganda, or at least what we have come to associate with that term. The BBC many countries in Western Europe had only publicly funded broadcasting corporations for years and no one accuses the BBC of being TASS in sheep's clothing.

The BBC has been compared to TASS and in some examples I've come across at Little Green Footballs I had to agree.

Clooney's very partisan. I stand by my statement that he made a very D.U.M.B. statement.

I don't watch TV at all anymore. Except football. I get all my news from my magical umbrella hat. She tells me what to do.
